How sentences are counted
A sentence is counted at each terminating mark — a period, question mark, exclamation point or ellipsis — followed by a space or the end of the text. Abbreviations and decimals can occasionally inflate the count; the transparent counting rules let you exclude bracketed or quoted text. Need words instead? Use the word counter.
