Readability Checker
Paste your draft to see what hurts readability — long sentences, adverbs, passive voice and filler words — highlighted live. Unlike most checkers, this one runs entirely on your device.

How it works
Sentences over ~18 words are flagged (over ~25 more strongly), since long sentences are harder to follow. Words ending in “-ly”, common filler words and likely passive constructions are marked so you can tighten them. The Flesch reading-ease score and grade level summarize overall difficulty. Everything is computed in your browser — nothing is uploaded. Need raw counts? Use the word counter.
A free alternative to Hemingway Editor
If you use the Hemingway app for its highlights, this tool does the same core job — flagging long sentences, adverbs, passive voice and filler words as you type — with two differences: it’s free with no desktop app to buy, and it’s private by architecture. Your text is analyzed in your own browser and never uploaded; it even works offline. You also get the full counter toolkit (words, characters, reading time, Flesch score) on the same screen.
What it doesn’t do: cloud sync, publishing integrations, or AI rewrites. If you need those, the paid tools earn their price. If you need clear, tight prose and proof your text stays yours — start typing above.
