These often give better sound quality than the onboard audko anyway. Get a sound card and install it in one of the PCI slots to replace the onboard sound. You though about it being mute was correct though and in both cases I had to play with the mixer to get it to work.

Without these the sound won’t go to the output jack on the board. Your board comes k8bt800 Q-Flash in the BIOS, which means you are able to log into the bios and flash it using this utility and by putting the BIOS firmware on a floppy and inserting it into the computer.
